Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and eventually the ability to carry out the simplest tasks.
The disease is thought to be do to the deposit of abnormal proteins (plaques), tangled nerves cells and loss of connections between nerve cells in the brain. In animal models of AD, CBD reverses these abnormalities and, in turn, restores memory and thinking abilities. A small 4-week study of 10 human patients with advanced AD, CBD improved their symptoms.
The FDA does not yet recommend CBD for the treatment of AD.
